CHICAGO -- Cubs manager Joe Maddon was ejected from his team's game against the Cincinnati Reds for arguing a strike call on catcher David Ross in the second inning Tuesday afternoon.

With the Cubs trailing 4-0 and a 3-0 count on Ross, pitcher Brandon Finnegan threw what looked to be ball four on a pitch near Ross' ankles. Ross actually took off his shin guard and tossed it aside, thinking he earned a walk. Plate umpire Jerry Meals felt differently, bringing Maddon out of the dugout.

After a few harsh words, Maddon was ejected for the second time this season. Then he and Meals went at it some more until second-base umpire Ron Kulpa stepped in.

Cubs pitcher John Lackey has been visibly upset with Meals as well.

The Cubs lost the game, 9-5.
