The Los Angeles Dodgers have shut down ace Clayton Kershaw as he continues to struggle with back pain.

Kershaw threw a simulated game on Saturday, but felt discomfort Sunday. He will rest and his return remains unknown, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said.

Kershaw last pitched June 26 at Pittsburgh. He came away from that start with lower back discomfort, which was diagnosed as a mild disk herniation.
