After 12 years in the major leagues, Miguel Montero may be ingrained in American culture, but now he's officially a U.S. citizen.

On Monday, the Chicago Cubs catcher, who was born in Venezuela, tweeted out a picture of he and his wife holding their citizenship certificates.

According to the Chicago Tribune, the 33-year-old, took the test on Monday after getting just three hours of sleep the night before because of the Cubs' game in Boston on Sunday.

"I was too tired to get nervous," said Montero, who lives in Arizona during the offseason.

In Monday night's 10-2 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies, the Wrigley Field video board directed its attention at Montero and shared the exciting news with fans.

"I really appreciated it," Montero told the Chicago Tribune. "I know they're happy for me and my family. I'm so blessed in my career and life. Those are times you can look back and see how blessed you were."
