Friends, family pray for Loop shooting victim
Family and friends gathered in prayer Thursday night in west suburban Lagrange.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Steven LaVoie was shot in the head and stomach on Thursday at his office in Chicago's financial district. Family and friends gathered in prayer Thursday night in west suburban Lagrange.

LaVoie is listed in critical condition at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where a family friend said he underwent neurosurgery Thursday night.

On Thursday night, friends and family prayed together for comfort and support. They called him a wonderful family man. He has a wife and three children who are active members of the First Presbyterian Church in Lagrange, not far from where they live.

LaVoie's family issued a written statement that said: "A horrific personal tragedy has happened today to two families. The family of Steven LaVoie would like to thank the staff and doctors at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Chicago law enforcement personnel for their ongoing and tireless efforts on behalf of Steven. Thank you to our family and friends for your outpouring of love and support. Our thoughts are also with Steven's extended family, the employees of ArrowStream, who mean so much to Steven. Finally, our prayers are with the other family affected by this tragedy."

LaVoie's three children are staying with loved ones while his wife is by his side at Northwestern.
