CHICAGO (WLS) -- Some high schoolers on the South Side are all smiles thanks to a generous donation by a Chicago police officer.
The SUV given to Johnson College Prep in Englewood will be used to transport athletes to and from games and practices.
Student Demario Bailey was shot and killed, walking to basketball practice in 2014. Officer John Bertetto was at the scene and has since grown close with the Bailey family.
"He basically just wanted to show that he really cared about the situation, and to not just leave it alone like every other shooting that happen in Chicago," said Demacio Bailey, Demario's twin brother.
Officer Bertetto launched a GoFundMe page for the SUV that brought in $5,500.
