Garbage truck collides with van in Sugar Grove, female driver rescued

SUGAR GROVE, Ill. (WLS) -- A garbage truck collided with a van on U.S. 30 about a mile west of Dugan Road in west suburban Sugar Grove. A female driver was rescued from beneath the truck.

A 2006 Chevrolet Uplander was traveling east on U.S. 30 when it entered the westbound lane of traffic, according to the Kane County Sheriff's Office. A garbage truck traveling west entered the eastbound lane of traffic in an attempt to avoid a head-on collision with the van.

The two vehicles crashed around 7:30 a.m. Friday. The driver of the van was trapped under the garbage truck. First responders were able to extricate her from the wreck.

The 44-yearold woman from Somonauk was airlifted to Good Samaritan Hospital with serious injuries. The garbage truck driver, a 59-year-old man from Cortland, was taken to Mercy Center Hospital with minor injuries.

The crash is under investigation. No tickets have been issued.
