Public hearings on Metra fare hike to be held Wednesday

Metra commuters will be able to voice their concerns on the proposed Metra fare hike beginning Wednesday night.

A majority of Metra board members seem committed to raising fares an average of almost 11 percent next year, depending on the zone. That could result in commuters paying between $15-30 more a month.

Additional increases would follow in each of the next nine years.

The hearings are from 4-7 p.m. in Homewood, Hanover Park, Geneva and Mundelein.
