MERRILLVILLE, Ind. (WLS) -- Repairs to power lines and traffic signals on U.S. 30 are mostly complete between I-65 and U.S. 41.

Indiana Department of Transportation crews are still working to replace the signal head at U.S. 30 and Taft Street Thursday morning, but the intersection is open. It remains a four-way stop due to wiring issues. INDOT recommends avoiding the area if possible, since there will be delays.

Severe weather in northwest Indiana prompted emergency repairs overnight, closing U.S. 30 between I-65 and U.S. 41. The closure was expected to last until 10 a.m. Thursday. But NIPSCO crews finished a majority of the work well ahead of schedule, around 4 a.m.
