CHICAGO (WLS) -- The City of Chicago will acquire and install eight new noise monitors around O'Hare International Airport.

The monitors will collect data to give city officials a better idea of the noise from planes taking off and landing.

The city has seen a dramatic increase in noise complaints in the past year.

Complaints increased after the opening of the new runway at O'Hare that changed traffic patterns. There are already 33 noise monitors in service.
