Ventra help available for customers with expiring CTA cards
Help desks are available at CTA stops to help Ventra customers with expiring cards.

CTA is setting up "help desks" at various stations to assist Ventra cardholders with expiring cards.

Early Tuesday, assistance was available at five stations and CTA headquarters for people with questions. Customer assistance will out again at stations from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Bottom line: Those with cards registered online will get an email two months before the card expires to confirm address and then receive a new card. Those who purchased their cards at a vending machine or elsewhere and is not registered, must use the balance before the card expires or lose the money, unless the money is transferred to another card.

Ventra cards were first issued in 2013, and the first batch started to expire in December.

From 4 to 6 p.m. the mobile help desk will be at the Clark/Lake, Lake Red Line, Ashland Green/Pink Line, 95th Street and Chicago Red Line stations.

Last month the CTA launched a new transit-only Ventra card. The option to use a Ventra card as a prepaid debit account ends on Sunday.
