HARVEY, Ill. (WLS) -- The community rallied around a local family dealing with tragedy to share the holiday spirit.

Christmas gifts were given to the widow and three children of Tyrone Hardin. He was killed on the job last month while working as a railyard security guard.

Sweet Holy Spirit Church, Golden Gate Funeral Home and others provided his three young children with gift bags and cash to buy their own presents.

"I feel truly blessed. You just don't realize how many people care about you," said Gwinette Oliver, Hardin's widow.

"We don't just want to give them toys and forget about them, we're going to be with them the rest of the way. This is going to be a journey for them," said June Williams of the Golden Gate Funeral Home.

A Christmas tree and decorations were also donated to the Hardin family.
