CHICAGO (WLS) -- Police say an additional serving of nuts, or lack thereof, was the cause of a 21-hour diversion for a United Airlines flight bound for Chicago.

Police say Jeremiah Thede was upset because flight attendants wouldn't give him another serving of nuts or crackers.

Police charged Thede with endangering the safety of an aircraft, disruptive behavior and common assault.

The pilot made an emergency landing in Belfast, Ireland, and many of the 282 passengers spent the night at the Belfast Airport before flying on to Chicago Sunday night.
