Chicago bundles up against bitter cold
Another wave of bitter cold weather strikes Chicago.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- For Cheryl Ondartchek, the commute home begins with a walk in the bitter cold.

"It's brutal. The worst is crossing the river. You get about half way and it just knocks you right over. It's like ice on your face," Ondartchek said.

Monday was clear and sunny, but well-below freezing again. As of 4 p.m., the high temperature at O'Hare International Airport was 11-degrees; 14 at Midway. This February is on track to be one of the coldest on record.

"It's been the worst it's been in a long time hasn't it? I thought last winter was bad. But this one is the worst it's been," Noel Gantepali said.

Photographer Aleksandra Orlikowska still rode her bike along the frozen lakefront.

"You have to layer up. You have to have the appropriate gear and then no weather is an issue," she said.

Like many Chicagoans, Debra Lightfoot is ready for spring.

"Are you kidding me? It could come tomorrow," she said.
