Chicago Weather: Heavy rains cause flooding south of Chicago

Most of the Chicago area was dry on Sunday, however, heavy rain south of Chicago sparked Flash Flood Warnings for several counties into the evening.

Slow-moving thunderstorms produced gusty winds, funnel clouds, and torrential downpours.

The impacted counties were Ford, Grundy, Kankakee, LaSalle, Livingston and Will in Illinois, and Jasper, Lake and Porter in Indiana.

One of the hardest hit areas was Braceville, Ill, in Grundy County just off Interstate 55, where about five inches of rain fell in about two hours.

Sunday afternoon, the NWS issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Grundy, Kankakee, Livingston and Will counties, but the warning expired at 2:30 p.m.

Monday morning, fog is expected. Another round of slow-moving thunderstorms are possible for western suburbs. Temperatures are expected to be warm and muggy, with highs in the mid to low 80s.
