Chicago Weather: Snow, ice, rain to impact Tuesday morning rush hour
CHICAGO (WLS) -- The Chicago area can expect a round of snow overnight into Tuesday, but the real troubles will begin during the morning commute as temperatures rise.
A Winter Weather Advisory goes into effect for the Chicago area from 3 a.m. until 12 p.m. Tuesday.
ABC7 Chief Meteorologist Jerry Taft said snow will begin across the area around 2-3:30 a.m. Tuesday. He expects around an inch of snow accumulation before changing over to sleet and freezing rain around 8 a.m., right in the middle of the morning rush hour.
"The ice should stay less than a tenth of an inch, but then any ice is dangerous out there," Taft said. "Certainly if you're driving, or even walking, it will be hazardous."
Drivers are advised to reduce speed, keep a safe distance and watch for ice as roads may become slick.
The precipitation should change to all rain by noon as temperatures reach above freezing. High temperatures could reach the upper 30s on Tuesday, before cold air moves in midweek.
