ABC7 Meteorologist Cheryl Scott said radar indicated rotation in a strong thunderstorm located south of Chicago near Monee on Friday afternoon. A tornado touchdown was reported in unincorporated Frankfort around 4:45 p.m.

Emergency management officials said it appears that the tornado touched down near Manhattan-Monee Road and Center Road and went across a golf course.

"It was scary," said Julie Moser, who lives along Monee-Manhattan Road. "Very windy. Just very windy and a lot of rain. You couldn't see because of the rain."

Some shingles were damaged on her home and a century-old windmill in her yard was crushed by a fallen tree.

Will County Emergency Management officials surveyed the damage on Friday night. They say 8-10 homes sustained minor roof damage. No injuries were reported.

STORMS CAUSE FLASH FLOODING

Flash flooding in the northern suburbs caused cars to stall out under a couple of underpasses in Lake Bluff and Lake Forest, although no injuries have been reported.

In Chicago Heights, heavy rains left Frederick Drive under water. Some residents were unable to get into their homes.

"Coming down like buckets of water," said Jack Greene, a Chicago Heights resident. "Crazy. Just crazy. It shouldn't flood like this, not this bad."

AIRPORT DELAYS, POWER OUTAGES REPORTED

The weather caused delays for travelers at both O'Hare and Midway on Friday night. More than 155 flights were canceled at O'Hare Airport, airport officials said.

At the height of the storms, 12,000 customers were in the dark; the outages were concentrated in the city and south suburbs.

EARLY RAIN, STORMS CAUSE FLOODING

A line of thunderstorms moved through the Chicago area early Friday morning. High-standing water flooded roads in the city and suburbs.

High-standing water flooded a viaduct near 47th Street and Wentworth Avenue and the area near 63rd and State streets. The ramp from the inbound Eisenhower Expressway to the outbound Dan Ryan Expressway was also closed Friday morning due to flooding.

Butler said as of 6 a.m. Friday, 2-3 inches of rain fell in the city and northern suburbs and around 4 inches of rain fell in southern Wisconsin.

Gusty winds, heavy downpours and small hail were reported as the storms moved through the city and suburbs Thursday afternoon.

The wind and rain shattered some windows in a 30-story high-rise on LaSalle Street in Chicago's River North neighborhood. Workers cleaned up the glass that fell to the sidewalk below.

Tree limbs were knocked onto power lines near the intersection of State and Gilbert in Elgin. The wind also knocked down three light poles in Morton Grove, which blocked the entrance to a strip mall near Dempster and Harlem. At least one tree was knocked down in Hoffman Estates.

Vehicles in Gurnee got stuck in high-standing water after heavy rain fell in Lake County.

The entire Chicago area was under a "marginal" risk for severe weather Thursday, the National Weather Service said. None of the storms in the Chicago area reached severe limits.
