VAIL, Colo. (WLS) -- A Colorado woman is hoping to use the power of social media to find her birth mother, who abandoned her as a newborn at an Iowa hospital 28 years ago.

Andrea Klug-Napier posted a picture to Facebook pleading for others to share it.

Klug-Napier says she was born at Kootenai Hospital in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho in 1987, and her mother, identified only as "Amy Beach" by hospital staff, left the facility 12 hours after giving birth.

"My whole life I've been so loved by my parents who adopted me. I never really pursued looking for (my birth mother)," she told ABC News.

Klug-Napier says health issues and food allergies inspired her to reach out to find her mom, "just to know (some) medical history."

While she isn't looking for a new parent, Klug-Napier says she's hoping to learn whether or not she has a sibling. Her adoptive parents have only been supportive of her search.

She has been inundated with tips ever since local news ran her story.

"I have people saying, 'Is this her? You look like someone I know,'" she said. "I literally have 150 friend requests pending right now. All these messages are coming through."
