After Thursday, they will begin taking in applications and holding several public hearings to get help from Chicago residents as to who should lead their police department.
Committee gives update on search for Supt. Brown's replacement
The commission says they are looking for someone unique, dynamic, and someone who is willing to listen to the people.
"We're living in a time of great challenge and change," Anthony Driver with the Community Commission For Public Safety and Accountability said. "Our city faces complex issues on public safety, justice and equality. That requires a visionary leader who is willing to take bold action. We need a superintendent who can inspire and lead and who can bring people together, who can foster healing and who can chart a new path towards a brighter and more just future for all Chicagoans."

David Brown resigning as Chicago Police Department superintendent
After 60 days, the commission is hoping to have a list complied and begin research and background checks on candidates. They will turn in three names to the new mayor for consideration in 120 days after David Brown leaves Thursday.
If the new mayor does not choose any of the candidates on the list, the group will begin the process again.
In the meantime, First Deputy Eric Carter will serve as interim superintendent after David Brown leaves until a new mayor is sworn in and a new superintendent is picked.
