"I've lived in the city for 15 years. So, I know that there's always going to be violence," Uptown resident Maria Hugo said. "There's always going to be crime. I'm a nurse. I've seen it firsthand."
The woman was wounded in the leg and transported to Ascension St. Francis Hospital in fair condition. Her dog was not injured.
"It's not that shocking," Uptown resident Matthew Ramirez said. "It's been little bit like that over the past few months and it's just part of life I guess."
It's unclear if the victim was targeted or if she was hit by stray gunfire.

Despite the early morning shooting, Hugo said she feels safe here with her family.
"I can't really comment on what happens after midnight," Hugo said. "I'm not usually out at that time. So, I don't know much about the activity around then but during the daytime I think I generally feel safe."
No one is in custody and Area Three detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
