"Police and politicians will say 'be aware of your surroundings if you're walking around in the city.' Just makes you think twice about being here in the city, what our politicians are doing about it," said Lincoln Park resident Chris Huff. State Rep. Margaret Croke and Ald. Timmy Knudsen released a joint statement to neighbors on Saturday afternoon.
"The shooting occurred after a group, which had been drinking, gathered on the street and a fight to broke out," the release said. "Let us be clear: This type of violence is unacceptable in our city and as elected officials, we will work to ensure there is a rapid response to deter this from happening again."
The lawmakers also said they have spoken with Chicago Police Commander Michael Barz and Deputy Chief Hein and said they have "committed to consistently patrol this area."
