Chicago shooting: 14-year-old boy shot at Grand Crossing gas station, police say

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A teen boy was critically injured in a shooting at a South Side gas station on Monday afternoon, Chicago police said.

Police said the shooting happened in the Grand Crossing neighborhood's 7600 block of S. South Chicago Avenue just before 5 p.m.

Chopper 7 was over the scene near East 76th Street. Police said an unknown offender approached the 14-year-old victim, took out a gun and shot him in the thigh.

The victim was transported to Comer Children's Hospital in good condition.

There is no one in custody and area detectives are investigating. Police did not immediately provide further information about the shooting.

This story previously said the victim was 16 years old and in critical condition, based on information from police.
