CHICAGO (WLS) -- The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is investigating after an off-duty Chicago police officer was involved in a Tuesday afternoon shooting on the city's Southwest Side.
CPD said it happened in the 7200 block of South Spaulding Avenue in the city's Chicago Lawn neighborhood.

An off-duty officer encountered an armed person, and there was an exchange of gunfire, police said. The armed person fled the scene, and no injuries were reported.
CPD said the Investigative Response Team is investigating, and the off-duty officer was transported to a local hospital for observation.

The officer involved will be placed on routine administrative duties for 30 days.
Officials did not immediately provide further information about the shooting.
