Police said they responded to a report of shots fired in the 600-block of Elmwood Avenue and they found a 29-year-old man walking while holding a handgun.
Officers fired and shot the man, police said. The man was transported to Silver Cross Hospital, where he was pronounced dead Tuesday.
His wife, Lanita Harris, identified the man killed as 29-year-old Victor Harris.
On Wednesday, Harris was pleading for some more information from police, as she believes this could've been handled differently.
She sat on the scene where her husband was shot Wednesday.
"I can't wrap my head around it; this is not happening," she said.

Harris said she was walking down the street with her sister, when they heard the gunshots.
"When I went down the street and turned the corner, my husband was just laying down there on the ground," she said.
No one else was injured in the incident.
Police said they found a handgun at the scene, but Harris is still wondering what exactly led police to shoot her husband multiple times.

"They could've done better; they could've handled this way different than how they handled it. He was already down. Why keep shooting him?" Harris said.
Loved ones are remembering Victor Harris, who now leaves behind three kids.
"Genuine, loving, he wouldn't hurt nobody," Harris said.
Joliet police have not provided any additional information on the incident.
The case is under investigation by the Will Grundy Major Crimes Task Force.
