The Lake County, Illinois coroner says 30-year-old Allen Chiquini died from blunt-force head injuries around 5:30 p.m. Friday near Winchester and Ellis in Libertyville.
"Through the investigative process and on review of video evidence, it has been determined that Mr. Chiquini was aboard an earlier northbound train, believing it to be a southbound train. After failed attempts at opening the passenger doors he exited that train, through the rear door, by climbing over the safety barrier," the coroner's update read in part. "Once outside of the train, Mr. Chiquini either fell or tried to step off the train while in transit, resulting in the fatal traumatic injuries."
Metra officials on the day of the incident said a train did not hit him.
In the coroner's first update on Monday, officials said the man suffered injuries consistent with train strike, but they have now confirmed he was not hit by a train.
Toxicology testing is pending, the coroner said.
Further information was not immediately available. Metra police are investigating.
