Bicyclist killed in northwest Indiana crash: police

MERRILLVILLE, Ind. (WLS) -- A bicyclist was killed in a crash involving a vehicle Thursday night in northwest Indiana, Merrillville police said Friday morning.

Merrillville police responded about 10:50 p.m. to 61st Avenue and Interstate 65 for a reported crash.



An injured bicyclist was found in the roadway. The individual was taken to a nearby hospital and later died, police said.

Parts of 61st Avenue were closed for several hours during an investigation.



The vehicle involved remained on the scene after the crash, police said.

It was not immediately clear what led up to the incident.
