CHICAGO (WLS) -- The Chicago Board of Education said Thursday it will vote next week to approve a new Chicago Public Schools CEO.

The Board plans to vote on approval of naming Macquline King, the current interim CEO, as the permanent leader.

"Naming a permanent leader for Chicago Public Schools is essential to delivering on the District's mission: to provide a high-quality public education for every child, in every neighborhood, that prepares each for success in college, career, and civic life," the board said in a statement.

There were at one point three finalists for the job, including Meisha Porter and Sito Narcisse.

Porter withdrew her name after it became public.

Pedro Martinez left as CPS CEO in June of last year when his contract expired and King was appointed as the interim CEO.

For the last nine months, King has served in that role, having come up through the ranks at CPS.
