A candidate for Chicago Public Schools Board President is defending himself against allegations of abuse that surfaced years ago in court filings tied to his divorce and custody case.
Two custodians were found shot to death in a Southwest Side school building on Monday afternoon, according to information from Chicago police and the employees' union.
Illinois House Speaker Emanuel "Chris" Welch told ABC7 he never specified an amount of funding or guaranteed that additional money would be provided to Chicago Public Schools.
Because the CPS budget is not considered balanced, the district must borrow money to ensure schools open on schedule and employees can be paid, according to board members.
The budget approved by the board relies on an additional $150 million in state funding that has not been allocated.
