Exclusive ew surveillance video obtained by ABC7 Thursday shows as light blue Volkswagen Passat speeds down an alley in Rogers Park near Jonquil Terrace and Marshfield. The mother of the boy riding the bike is speaking out.
The crash unfolded just after 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Sources tell ABC7 Chicago police were trying to make a traffic stop on the Volkswagen.
Witnesses said the crash was so loud it could be heard for blocks.
"At least 70 miles an hour. It was going too fast. It was going too fast, extremely fast and like it said the vehicle that was hit didn't even see it coming," Brian Iverson, who witnessed the crash, said.
The video is shocking to watch, however everyone was released from the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The video shows no evidence of a chase, instead one surveillance clip shows the Volkswagen wait for police to pass before it speeds down the alley.
The Volkswagen exits the alley onto Jonquil Terrace, and slammed into a van with a family a four inside.
The parents are in their 40's and the kids are ages 7 and 10, according to police.
The video shows a boy on a bike riding down the sidewalk who was also hit by the Volkswagen before it barreled into a metal fence. The 13-year-old boy was able to run away with minor injuries, meanwhile the driver of the crashed car bailed out of the passenger side door and fled east on Jonquil Terrace.
"I saw the little boy that got hit but I thought he was ok because he jumped right up and he ran," Iverson said. "He was scared. He was trying to get to his mother. Then he got about a block away and he just sat down."
Horror went through a mother's mind as she said she heard the moment the car slammed into another, right where her oldest son was riding his bike.
The mother, who did not want to be identified, said she thought she lost her son.
"That's what I was thinking, because the impact you heard it, it was like boom, and I didn't see him at first because he was on the ground," she said. "I was happy when they took his X-rays he didn't have broken bones or anything, and we were able to leave the hospital, so I'm very grateful for that and that was nothing but God."
The suspect can be seen running away from the vehicle in the surveillance video.
"He needs to be caught because, that was really serious," the mother said. "You can't just walk away from something like that, people could've lost their lives."

"They were coherent and they were very thankful that people were able to kick the front window out to get the kids out. The main focus was the kids," Iverson said.
No one is currently in custody. An investigation by CPD Area Three detectives is ongoing.
