One of the targeted businesses was Griddle 24 in River North.
A 16-year-old boy was arrested Thursday in the 1900 block of South Spaulding Avenue in Lawndale, Chicago police said. The suspect has not been named by authorities because he is a minor.
He is charged with three felony counts of armed robbery, two counts of burglary and one count of vehicular hijacking with a firearm, CPD said.
Chicago police said the crimes the suspect is charged in happened at the following times and locations:
- January 3 at 5:46 a.m., 3000 block of North Ashland, armed robbery
- January 3 at 5:52 a.m., 2600 block of North Lincoln, burglary of a business
- January 3 at 6:02 a.m., 3100 block North Broadway, burglary of a business
- April 23 at 12:19 a.m., 1100 block of North Harding, aggravated vehicular hijacking
- April 23 at 3:13 a.m., 300 block of West Chicago Avenue, armed robbery
- April 23 at 3:21 a.m., 2300 block of North Damen Avenue, armed robbery
The armed robbery in the 300 block of West Chicago was at Griddle 24 in River North. Masked men with guns stormed the 24-hour diner, taking items from customers while they were eating.
The armed robbery in the 2300 block of North Damen Avenue was at a 7-Eleven store.
Chicago police have been investigating multiple robberies and a suspected robbery crew involved. Arturo's Tacos in Bucktown was also targeted in the recent crime spree, with armed gunmen being caught on video, but no charges have been filed in that crime.
Police continue to investigate.
