Many of the graduates said they are happy to reach this career milestone and celebrate this moment with their loved ones.
The ceremony happened a day after there was a big showing up support by CPD at Leighton Criminal Courthouse, for the family of Officer Andres Vasquez-Lasso.
He was killed in the line of duty while responding to a domestic call two years ago. On Monday, a jury found the suspect guilty of first degree murder.
The trial is a reminder of the dangers police officers are faced with on a regular basis.
Some graduates said they understand the challenges that come with being a police officer, and want to make a difference in the department.
Others say they are the first in their family to pursue a career in law enforcement. Others adding that they have a long line of family members who are part of CPD, and wanted to continue the legacy of protecting and serving the city of Chicago.
