The shooting happened around 3:21 p.m. in the 4000 block of West Monroe Street in Garfield Park, in what should've been the safe confines of the man's home.
A 62-year-old man was shot in the head after gunfire came through the front window of what looked to be a second-floor apartment. He was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he was initially listed in critical condition, Chicago police said.
A shattered window showed the violent path of a bullet that went through the West Side home.
ABC7 saw officers inside of the home, gathering evidence while doctors at the hospital are working to save the man's life.

The man is now at least the second victim within only one week who has been shot in Chicago from gunfire that entered their home.
In a separate shooting, Sabrina Hunter took a bullet to the head from a gunman shooting outside of her South Side home one week ago.
"I just felt something hit me like a blow," Hunter said.
The 47-year-old grandmother was released from the hospital days later.
Her life was spared while doctors are yet again treating another victim in Chicago injured from gunfire that pierced their home.
Police are investigating the two shootings as separate incidents. Still, no one has been arrested in either case.
