CHICAGO (WLS) -- The Walgreens at 86th Street and Cottage Grove Avenue in Chatham is set to close Thursday.

While some community leaders and neighbors say the shuttering of this location is a prescription for disaster, the company says because of the high levels of theft and violent incidents at the store and they have no choice.

The Chatham location will be the sixth Walgreens to close over the last year on Chicago's South Side.

People who live nearby say the store closing will create a pharmacy desert. The company says prescriptions will be automatically transferred to nearby stores.

One is located on east 75th Street and the other on east 87th Street. Both are over a mile away and some customers say they don't have transportation to get there.

The company says they'll offer free prescription drug delivery for 90 days to help with the transition.

The neighborhood's alderman plans on joining community leaders, healthcare advocates and neighborhood residents and others to talk about the impact the closure will have and what they say is a pattern of corporations profiting off of communities of color, but not investing in them.
