A second water main break was reported Saturday after another break that impacted dozens of homes was repaired.
The village has been dealing with multiple water main breaks over the past month.
"The water main break is located at 143rd and Marshfield in Dixmoor IL. Approximately 50 homes are affected," Village President Fitzgerald Roberts said in a statement Saturday evening. "These homes have no water service as a result of the break. Crews are working to repair the break. No timetable for the completion of the repairs is available at the moment."
A village spokesperson said in an update later Saturday that the water main break was repaired, but a second water main break was reported nearby. On Sunday, village officials said that second break had been repaired.
"The water main break at 143rd and Page Ave. in Dixmoor has been repaired," Roberts said in a statement. "On Saturday, crews repaired a water main break located at 143rd and Marshfield in Dixmoor and after finishing that repair another break was discovered. Crews worked this morning to address the new break at 143rd and Page Avenue. The repairs were completed at approximately 3 pm. There is no boil water order."
One of the water main breaks last month forced two schools to close down while crews got to work on repairs. Another break last week impacted more than half of all Dixmoor residents.
The village says the old infrastructure is partially to blame and leaders continue to push for more funding to make much needed improvements.
"We still need more funding to take care of this infrastructure out here," Roberts said last week. "I say over and over again this infrastructure is over 100 years old plus when you have hot to cold, or if it's too hot you're going to have pipes that break."
