The 8-inch water main is a major line delivering water to the Dixmoor community, impacting about 800 to 1,000 people. Officials say it is the sixth water main break in Dixmoor since Wednesday.

Crews are currently working on the break, which is right under the railroad tracks, making repairs difficult.

ABC7 spoke with some residents, who say they have been dealing with issues, mostly low pressure water, with water barely coming out of the faucets, since Saturday.

Now, as crews work, the water has been shut off completely. Officials said at 5 p.m. that repairs might take five to six hours, and they will pass out water bottles door-to-door.

Dixmoor water main breaks have popped up several times in recent years as local officials continue to advocate for more funding to fix the old infrastructure that is at the root of these issues. Residents say they are quite tired of this.

Officials did not immediately provide further information.
