Illinois Democrats defend House seats, close race between Sorensen, McGraw in 17th District

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Illinois Democrats in the House of Representatives defended their seats on Election Day.

So far, ABC News projects that Rep. Jonathan Jackson (IL-1), Rep. Robin Kelly (IL-2), Rep. Delia Ramirez (IL-3), Rep. Jesus "Chuy" Garcia (IL-4), Rep. Mike Quigley (IL-5), Rep. Danny Davis (IL-6), Rep. Jan Schakowsky (IL-9), and Rep. Brad Schneider (IL-10) will win their races.

ABC News also projects Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi will win his 8th District race against Republican Mark Rice.

In the 13th District, ABC News projects Democrat Rep. Nikki Budzinski will win over Republican Joshua Loyd, holding onto that seat.



ABC News also projects Republican Rep. Mike Bost will win Illinois District 12.

In the 6th District race between Rep. Sean Casten and Republican Niki Conforti, Casten declared victory at 10 p.m., saying, "Tonight, I feel hopeful about our future. It's the people of the 6th District who fuel that hope, reminding me every day of our shared beliefs and demonstrating their remarkable decency. Serving the 6th District in Congress is the honor of a lifetime. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to continue this important work. Thank you to everyone who has placed their trust in me."

In the 11th District, ABC News projects Rep. Bill Foster will win over Republican challenger Jerry Evans.

Foster declared victory about 9:30 p.m. He said Evans conceded.

In the extremely close downstate race in Illinois District 17, incumbent Democrat Rep. Eric Sorensen has widened his lead over Republican challenger Joe McGraw, 54% to 46% with 47% of the vote reported as of 9:15 p.m. There are no projections yet in that race.
