Palos Hills police shoot, kill armed man during domestic disturbance call, officials say

PALOS HILLS, Ill. (WLS) -- Palos Hills police shot and killed an armed man, while responding to a domestic disturbance call Sunday, officials said Tuesday.

Palos Hills police officers responded just after 4:15 a.m. Sunday to 7 Cour Versaille in Palos Hills for a reported domestic disturbance.



A 911 caller said a male suspect had a shotgun and was going to harm his girlfriend and her children, police said.

When police arrived, they were met by an armed suspect outside the home, Illinois State Police and Palos Hills police said.



Officers fired shots, striking the man, Illinois State Police said.

The man was taken to Advocate Christ Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The suspect has been identified as Gerhardt Facko, 37, of Palos Hills.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office said he was shot multiple times.



No one else was injured in the incident.

Police said they recovered a gun from the scene.

The Illinois State Police Public Integrity Unit is investigating.
