Police said the crash happened near West 87th Street and South Ashland Avenue in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood just after 11 p.m.
A 36-year-old man was standing outside when the driver of a beige-colored sedan hit him, police said.
The victim was transported in critical condition to Christ Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His identity was not immediately released.
The driver fled the scene, continuing eastbound on 87th Street, police said.

One witness, who did not want to be on camera,described what he saw.
"They kept going, most of the side pieces panels were off on the car," he said.
Another witness, Carl Johnson, says he was also the area and saw the man lying on the ground.
"Everybody was surrounding him, and all I could say was, 'Breathe, just breathe, stay with us.' It was a lot going on," Johnson said.
Orange cones were placed on the busy intersection of 87th and Ashland as CPD's Major Accident detectives investigated.
About 1 mile away, near 87th and Carpenter, officers surrounded a heavily damaged beige sedan with no license plates. The windshield had a gaping hole.
At this time, police have not connected the vehicle to the scene.
This crash marks the second deadly hit-and-run in the city this week. A father of four was killed near 68th and Pulaski on Tuesday night.
And on Monday, a woman who was in the crosswalk near Franklin and north Kedzie was seriously injured after being hit by a car.
