Prosecutors allege Richard Stevenson, a 45-year-old Lisle man, was operating a 30-foot pontoon boat under the influence of alcohol at 80 miles per hour before striking another boat near the 1800-block of South Fernwood Lane in McHenry on July 25.
The crash killed 48-year-old Magdalena Jablonska, of Des Plaines. She was a U.S. Marine veteran. Her fiancé, Alan Telmini, survived the collision and is still recovering.
Jablonska's family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit.
The bill of indictment charges Stevenson with first-degree murder, four additional charges of aggravated driving under the influence, and four additional charges of operating a watercraft under the influence.
Stevenson, who has a history of DUI offenses, was arraigned on the indictment during his Friday morning hearing and is due back in court for a status hearing on Sept. 23.
He remains detained in the McHenry County Jail pending trial.
