The incident took place about 4 p.m. near 138th Street and Atlantic Avenue, police said.
When police arrived, they found three people had been shot. They did not immediately provide any additional information about the victims.
There is a large police presence in the area.
It's not immediately clear what led up to the shooting.
A witness who did not want to be identified said they heard what sounded like over 15 gunshots before a car crashed into the back of a laundromat Monday afternoon.

The witness said, moments after the crash, they saw a limping man get out of a black vehicle and another lying on the ground.
They said one man asked for help, and then the witness called 911.
That witness said, moments before hearing the gunshots, they saw a white Dodge Durango speeding by. They believe the people inside the white SUV and black vehicle were shooting at each other.
Crime scene tape blocked off the car later Monday, and several evidence markers were seen near shell casings in the parking lot of a Riverdale strip mall.
Shell casings were also seen along a neighborhood street on Wentworth Avenue, leading into the alley behind the strip mall, where the black sedan crashed.
Bullet holes could be seen in the windshield.
Police have not said if anyone is in custody.
