2 different 'crash-and grab' burglaries on South Side within 2 hours, Chicago police say

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Two stores were victim to "crash-and-grab" burglaries within two hours on the city's South Side on Tuesday, Chicago police said.



The first burglary happened around 3:15 a.m. at a Save Big Food Mart in the 1900-block of East 95th Street in the Calumet Heights neighborhood.

A Jeep crashed into the front doors of the business. It's not known how many people were involved or what was taken from the store.

No one was inside the store at the time of the crash.

About two hours later, around 5:12 a.m. Lyon's Beverage Express in the 9000-block of Ashland Avenue in Brainerd was also hit.

A group crashed an SUV into the liquor store and took some items. They left a crashed Jeep at the scene.

The offenders fled in a waiting SUV, possibly a white Jeep, and fled northbound.

No injuries were reported in either case.

No one is in custody. Chicago police are investigating.

Police have not said if the cases are related.
