Oak Lawn teachers create books of acceptance
It's time to send your kids off to school, and some students may encounter others with disabilities for the first time.

OAK LAWN, Ill. (WLS) -- It's time to send your kids off to school, and some students may encounter others with disabilities for the first time. That's why a pair of Oak Lawn mothers and teachers, Heather McCarthy and Kate Ryan, created Someone Special Books. The uniquely personalized books teach young ones kindness, acceptance, confidence, and respect. Someone Special Books cover a range of topics, such as Autism, Diabetes, Down Syndrome, Speech Impairment. Each book can be personalized to feature your own children. Authors Heather McCarthy and Kate Ryan joined ABC 7 to talk about the impact they hope their books have on children.
