A luxurious mansion that spans more than eight city lots hit the market Thursday at a record asking price of $50 million.

According to Jameson Sotheby's International Realty, Richard and Michaela Parrillo are selling the 25,000-square-foot, 7-bedroom mansion at 1932 North Burling in Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood. The couple built the home surrounded by manicured gardens nearly 10 years ago.

The asking price is significantly higher than what any Chicago-area home has ever sold for, Jameson Sotheby's said. The highest price for a Chicago home sale sits at $18.75 million in 2015 for a penthouse condo unit in the Park Tower.
