Little girl's RSVP: 'My dad will not let me go because you are black'

MEMPHIS, TN -- An honest note between two young Tennessee friends is making waves nationwide.

A young girl wrote her friend a letter that explained why she could not attend her birthday party.

The letter reads in part, "My dad will not let me go because you are black."

The party was for Harmony Jones.

Harmony's father, Christopher Gray, expressed his thoughts when he saw the letter, telling WREG-TV, "It angered me a little bit. It hurt me, you know, for the simple fact that my 10-year-old girl had to deal with something that I never thought I myself would have to deal with this."

Jones says he doesn't blame his daughter's friend and would not allow the letter to ruin the party.

Harmony still had a successful birthday.
