NEW YORK -- Amazon is going small and light, in a bid to expand sales of small goods through its web site.

The online retail giant now offers free shipping, in five to seven days, on all small items it sells.

The items need to weigh less than eight ounces, be less than nine by six by two inches, and cost less than $10 to qualify.

Until now, free shipping was only for $99 a year Amazon Prime customers, and those with orders more than $35.

As for third-party sellers, to qualify for free shipping under the new program, they must sign up for 'Fulfillment by Amazon."

The small and light items arrive between four and eight days.

All the small and light orders will ship out of a new Fulfillment center in Florence, Kentucky.
