CHICAGO (WLS) -- A Mariano's Fresh Market is coming to Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood. A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday at 3030 North Broadway Avenue.
Alderman Tom Tunney's office said the 125,000 square foot development will house the grocery store, an XSport Fitness club, a number of smaller retail shops and a parking garage.
"Grocery stores are economic engines for neighborhoods and Mariano's will be a positive catalyst for our local businesses by bringing increase foot traffic to Broadway," said Ald. Tunney of the 44th Ward.
The development is scheduled to open in June of 2016.
The site has a bit of history. Back in 2005, a Dominick's went up in flames. The four-alarm fire reduced the grocery store to rubble.
There was talk of plans to rebuild, but the site has been empty for nearly a decade.
