CHICAGO (WLS) -- Some parents want to know how a grade school sex education lesson with information they call "inappropriate" made it into school materials.

Too racy to show on TV, the materials describe sex acts and other behavior that have parents outraged.

Parents of fifth graders at Jackson Language Academy gave an earful to a top CPS administrator on Friday.

"It happened in my department, so therefore, that's why I am here in front of you to address it," said Dr. Stephanie Whyte, CPS Chief Student Health Officer.

The slides were in a binder presented to parents last week, showing the curriculum for their fifth grader's upcoming sex ed class. They included information about enhancing sexual pleasure.

"How did you approve sexual promotion over sexual education?" asked a parent.

"It was developed by health advocacy groups, and it was selected and placed there. There's no good reason. There's no good explanation," said Dr. Whyte.

CPS says the material, which has now been removed, was meant only for teachers as supplemental information. But parents say it's inappropriate even for teachers.

"It made me blush. It's material that you can't view on your work computers. You certainly can't email it from work email addresses," said Mary Clare Maxwell, a parent of a Jackson student.

"It is unacceptable, and someone should be held accountable for it and removed," said Angela Bryant, a parent of a Jackson student.

CPS says it's now conducting a top-to-bottom review of all sex ed materials, including documents for teachers' eyes-only.
