CHICAGO (WLS) -- In 1944, the German U-boat on display at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago was captured by the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Ten years later, it went on display outside the museum in Hyde Park. But harsh summers and winters led MSI officials to move it indoors. Work began, and in 2005 the exhibit re-opened.
On June 4, 2014, World War II veterans who were there when the U-505 was captured off the coast of West Africa marked the 70th anniversary of that day.
