Safe swimming tips for the summer

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Summer is finally here, and that means lots of fun on the water. But with that fun comes high risk.

Drowning is still the leading cause of death and accidental injury to children under the age of 5. Drowning is usually silent. It takes less than 20 seconds for a drowning victim to submerge. But there are things you can do to prevent drowning:

  • 1. Having adult supervision
  • 2. Teaching kids how to swim
  • 3. Learning CPR and First Aid
