HOMER GLEN, Ill. (WLS) -- In September 2012, the ABC 7 Eyewitness News family unexpectedly lost a beloved friend and colleague. ABC 7 photographer Mike Dukewich, or "Duke," as we called him, passed away suddenly.
To keep his memory alive, we are organizing a charity golf outing that supports two causes that were near and dear to Mike's heart: the Greater Chicago Food Depository and the Wounded Warrior Project. Being a camera man for more than 35 years at ABC, Mike showed great empathy and told such emotional stories when he spoke about going to cover a story about a family whose son or daughter had been lost or disabled in our ongoing conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The second annual Duke Classic golf event is on Saturday, Aug. 23 at The Old Oak Country Club in suburban Homer Glen. ABC 7 Meteorologist Tracy Butler helped spearhead the event. She joined us live from the golf course during our ABC 7 Eyewitness News Saturday Morning with Kate Maehr from the Greater Chicago Food Depository and Norbie Lara with the Wounded Warrior Project. Lara joined the US Army in 1995. In June 2004, while on combat patrol in Iraq, a rocketpropelled grenade (RPG) struck his vehicle and left him severely injured.
