CHICAGO (WLS) -- Firefighters were battling a massive warehouse fire on the city's South Side Monday night, Chicago Fire Department officials said.

The fire started at around 8:30 p.m. at an abandoned mattress factory near the 4000-block of South Emerald Avenue in Chicago's Canaryville neighborhood.

The Chicago Fire Department upgraded their fire response a few times throughout the night. Crews were battling the fire from the outside of the building, eventually putting it out by 10:49 p.m.

The block-long, 150-foot by 300-foot building was a "large warehouse" filled with hundreds of mattresses, the fire department said. It had a sprinkler system was helped put out the fire as a fire engine fed it with water.

The building remained structurally sound, but firefighters were expected to remain at the scene throughout the night to continue chasing small spots of the fire that remained, fire officials said.

No injuries were reported.
